“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
The word temptation here is also translated “adversity”. We can often feel the various trials in our lives may be too much for us to endure. We may even question God as to why these things are happening to us. I find this verse very comforting in that God promises that no matter what is going on in our lives He has provided us with the strength to endure it.
I also find it interesting that God says that with whatever we are going through He will provide a way of escape for us. There is always a way out of the situation we are in. However, the way of escape may not be the way we want to exit from the situation. It may mean we have to swallow our pride, confess our weakness or give up something that we are very attached to. Ultimately, it is up to us to accept God’s way out, and we may have to humble ourselves on the way.
Also, when we are going through these trials and temptations let us not lose sight our Master who understands what we are going through. “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need (Hebrews 4:14- 16).
Let us not lose sight of the fact that God and Christ are with us! They are faithful and will provide us with the strength we need to get through whatever we are dealing with.
