Philippians 1:2-6

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, thankful for your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

1 Corinthians 1:4-8

I give thanks to God always for you because of the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him with all speech and all knowledge–even as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you–so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ; who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23,24

May the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

Psalm 138:7,8

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou dost preserve my life; thou dost stretch out thy hand against the wrath of my enemies, and thy right hand delivers me.  The LORD will fulfil his purpose for me; thy steadfast love, O LORD, endures for ever. Do not forsake the work of thy hands.”

I have always found the above scriptures very uplifting and comforting because they speak of God working in us.  This tells us that He has started something in us and will bring it to completion.  He sustains us and keeps us.  Regardless of how we may have been let down by this world He is faithful towards us and will accomplish His plan in us. God will fulfil His purpose in you and me.  These thoughts are pretty awe-

inspiring when we think that God is actively working in our lives and on His part will not let us fail. We can take comfort that God has not set us up for failure and that He wants us to succeed in knowing Him. And what is our role in this? Our part is to trust and to allow God to work in our lives.

In this world we may feel we have to do it all on our own because that is what the world teaches us, isn’t it?  “Being one’s own man.”  “Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps.”  “Do not rely on anyone except yourself.”  This type of thinking is so contrary to a follower of Christ.  We are to be dependent and reliant on God and Christ. If I had the choice to go it alone or have God on my side, one hundred times out of one hundred I would choose God.  One of my favourite verses in the bible is Romans 8:31 “If God is for us, who is against us?”

May we allow God to work within us this day and give our will over to Him.

God bless,
