“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”
1 Peter 5:7
“Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares about you.”
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Many times we can become weighed down with the anxieties and burdens of this life. It can get so bad that we can become depressed or lose our perspective. We may feel alone in our walk and in doing so we have lost sight of the fact that God and Christ are with us. By being in Christ and believing in God we need to keep reminding ourselves that we are not alone. As the Psalmist and Peter say we are to cast our cares and burdens on God. For we are not without hope and a loving Father. We need to approach Him and share our every thought with Him, including our burdens and anxieties.
Sometimes our faith is the burden we are bearing. We may look at our commitment to God and Christ as a great burden, and that to be a follower of Christ is a heavy and onerous task. If that is the case then we need to look to the words of Christ in the gospel of Matthew and check our relationship with him. Are we making it a burden? Are we putting an unnecessary weight on our shoulders, one that Christ never intended? We must lose sight of the fact that we have been set free by him.
May you cast your burdens on God and Christ today and remember the freedom that we have been given through our Lord.
